I loved Dracula, but I hated Dracula (1931). And Blackula (1972). And I hated the Hammer Horror Dracula series without ever having seen them. This may change; I am a fallibilist about my own tastes. But Christopher never has been, is not, and likely will never be scary. He’s just handsome and regal and stately and polished. No fangs or oatmeal Frankenstein makeup will change that. And as the Anti-Gandalf he was evil and cool but never scary—especially not during that battle at the top of of Orthanc, the stone tower of Isengard.
