There is that tingle—the one that ends sometimes in hairs standing on end. That wave of too-much power bubbling up and every part it passes through goes rigid with grinning. [The tightness of the muscle-pull that makes the grin happen is not local to the mouth. The grinning feeling (or muscle tightening) actually cascades over all muscular surfaces. There is a contract that comes with glee. The mouth just happens to be the most fluid muscle mass available for contortion, and if you are speaking when the glee-tightening wave comes, it will be noticeable. Also, and related, the mouth muscles are also on the body’s primary billboard, the face.]

Pīti

• Pīti is a stimulating, exciting and energizing quality (as opposed to the calmness of sukha).
• Pīti is a joyful samskara associated with no object so the practitioner is not attaining it by desire. The contents here are deeply on the subject side, so much so that they are even behind the feeling that drives intentionality, and so before object-making. (Sukha, on the other hand, is a joyful vedana. Pīti is included in the formations aggregate; sukha is included in the feeling aggregate.
• This also puts us in a strange relation with these beings. We cannot access them as end-points of apprehension. They exist prior to their manifestation in our stream of inner sense, and we sense this prior form in us as well.

Anyway—

Going backwards from egoic self to elemental consciousness. It turns out that the ontologies of Yoga and Samkyha and Vedanta were correct after all. The nature of fundamental self really is bliss. But the Buddhist just goes past the floor of biological or negentropic being. Too bad, because everything—every content that can be an object of value—rests on the biological level and above. Below this, you get Shiva and nirvana and the Terrifying Krishna—states that are trans-personal. The cold heartless pounding of physical churning cares nothing for the biological anomalies that its periodic motion produces. Bliss is biological. [Oh lord—but we’ve already said that pain is the primordial bio-maker of selves. Is this just speculative positing from fiat? No—bliss is under pain.
