How best to approach the offense of religious promises
The only thing more offensive and off-putting than a bold sweeping claim is a bold sweeping religious claim. Read this:
The Buddha says that just as in the great ocean there is but one taste, the taste of salt, so in his doctrine and discipline there is but one taste, the taste of freedom. The taste of freedom that pervades the Buddha's teaching is the taste of spiritual freedom, which from the Buddhist perspective means freedom from suffering.
When I read crap like that, my chest and abdomen boil with pride and anger. Also, I hate the messenger, because the chances are 99% that this person doesn’t grasp the crazy depths of what he is saying or even understand the terms he uses. Marketing pap always sounds good, and everything that exists has marketing pap as its calling card. Even a Pet Rock™ for Crike’s sake.
So I thought it would be helpful to protect profound and important facts from the marketing that kills them—even (or especially) if they are profound and important.
