The problem: other people

The things that hurt us the most in this life are usually people. Over time, we develop a grudge against others. Unless we are talking about on-duty service industry employees, strangers generally arise as threats.

I am guilty of already being mad at you when I first meet you. And you’re already guilty of being a threat. And vice versa. This basic primate threat orientation, which arises most powerfully in the face-to-face encounter, is the real (socially objective) Original Sin if there ever was one. The collective curse at work in the prime material plane is the antisocial selfishness of individual instinct.
