Digital is the new real

Who they really are.
Who they really are.

Digital is the new real

Agreement about the flaw makes the flaw real and your judgment valid. What could be happier? Ontologically negating the oppressor AND the joy of being right about something that others cannot even see.

Passion is relaxed interest.

Hillary is Devil; Trump, a Golden Roman God.

The re-making of self through computer graphics makes anyone with even a piddling graphics program knowhow the ability to be a fully-realized Frankenstein. A complete really actualized and actually real maker of fully complete and actual human organisms.

The online self is not only as real as the physical self, it is more real. As is right and good. For the digital realm is infinitely copyable. Being in there is, if not perfect, perfectible. In that land, there is no degradation. Don’t minimize the importance of Internet Being and Internet Self. Don’t minimize the important of seeing Hillary as the Devil with total photorealistic accuracy. Caricatures are as old as cuneiform. But this is not the same as a line-drawn caricature:

Who they really are.
Who they really are.

This is not the same as a line-drawn caricature for two reasons. First, it’s indistinguishable from a photograph. Second, online photographs are the new self, and I mean that by every definition available. There is no other person over and above the person invented as a person by the listening and meaning-making of persons—including the person in question: you are also a person for the pure empty consciousness that you take to be your pure real nugget.

Digital is the new real. The constructed person is at least as real as the ad hoc self you conjure when you meet someone in 3-space. The online manicured avatar self is more real, for exactly the same reasons Derrida gives for claiming that writing is more real than speech. It’s because meaning has the realm of rules as its matter—rules that ontologically are stable structures of relational difference.

When graphics and AI get good enough, you will not be able to tell the two apart. You will watch an artificial newscast and believe it is real. Then capital can finally incarnate as a person (or cabinet) and fully subjugate the primitive empathic human.

Money that seeks to attract money makes demands. Money can run through human circuits and increase its quantity. Soon, it will make an AI-plus-graphics company that makes beautiful people that give beautiful mind-manufacturing speeches. Love of Big Brother will finally happen. And because our minds would have been constructed by the capital-accumulating God, we really would love Big Brother.

Polish every pixel—that online you is eternal.
